Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

We hope you had a wonderful winter break!

Welcome back to the Spring term.

Let's have a fantastic year.

Your teachers are Mrs Fawcett-Foster, Miss Kelso and our fabulous teaching assistant is Mrs Pritchard we are all in 1KFF.

Your teachers are Miss Wild and the lovely teaching assistant for 1C is Mrs Haynes.

We are now well into our learning and the children are thriving! This Spring term we will be investigating animals and plants in Science, looking into Roman life in History and creating mosaics in Art. In Numeracy we will be continuing to focus on addition and subtraction to ensure that the children have a solid understanding of these concepts. We will also begin to introduce time, length and height, weight and volume and fractions.

In Literacy the children will create an information text about animals. We will also read and write our own traditional tales and create poems. In R.E we will investigate Christianity and Islam to share our understanding of God. The children will also be using the ICT suit and IPAD'S to further their skills. In P.E our budding gymnasts will be using the equipment to balance travel and be aware of their surroundings whilst in games develop their ball control skills. Finally in Music we will be making our own instruments and discovering how music affects your mood.

Mid Term plans and the long term plan are below for the academic year for you to look at, at your leisure.

    • White T shirt
    • Black shorts or leggings (above the knee for gymnastics)
    • Pumps or trainers

Long hair must be tied back, no jewellery must be worn at any time and head scarves must be securely fastened or removed for PE.

We take part in dance, gymnastics and outdoor games every week (depending on the weather of course!) and children need to have the appropriate kit for all PE lessons.  It is easier if PE kits are kept in school on the children's pegs and only taken home at the end of the half term for washing.

Spellings will be sent home weekly on a Thursday and will be tested on the following Friday with 10 spellings and also 5 phonics words to read each week. Homework for maths will be sent out every  Thursday and must be completed for Monday. Children who do not complete their homework will stay in during Monday playtime and complete it then (hopefully this will not happen). All homework sent home is to clarify learning from Numeracy or Literacy.
